LIBRARY

The aim of the library is to serve the needs of the students, faculty and the research scholars. The Library includes a large number of books, National and international journals. The central library is fully automated with IMPRESS ERP software. This software has a Web OPAC where the students can browse the availability of library materials such as books, journals, Cd’s back volumes, project reports etc. The central library has a remote access facility to access e-books, e-journals, e-databases and membership library like British council. To enable easy access the books are bar-coded and circulated through the software.

ACCESSIBILITY TO STUDENTS

Resources are available through the following channels for students

Lending

The SECE library provides lending services to faculty and students under the following guidelines:

  • Faculty Members: Can borrow up to 8 books for a loan period of 6 months.
  • Students can borrow up to 3 books for a loan period of 30 days.
  • CDs/non-books can borrow 2 for a loan period of 1 day.

Books must be returned on or before the due date. A late fine of ₹1 per day per book will be charged for overdue books. Renewals may be allowed based on availability. Reference books, journals, and special collections are for in-library use only.

Reference

The SECE library’s Reference Section houses a collection of encyclopaedias, dictionaries, handbooks, research papers, and other valuable resources. These materials are for in-library use only and cannot be borrowed. Users are encouraged to utilize the reading area for study and research. Photocopying of select pages may be permitted as per library guidelines. Library staff is available for assistance in locating reference materials.

OPAC/WEB OPAC

The SECE library provides an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) that allows users to search, browse, and check the availability of books and other resources in the library collection. WebOPAC extends this service online, enabling users to access the catalogue remotely from any internet-enabled device. Users can search by title, author, subject, or keywords; check book availability; and view their borrowing history. Faculty and students can also place hold requests and renew books online, subject to library policies.

Digital Library

The SECE Digital Library provides access to a vast collection of e-books, e-journals, research papers, and databases, supporting academic and research needs. Users can explore digital resources through institutional subscriptions and open-access repositories. Remote access may be available for registered users. The digital library also includes multimedia resources, past question papers, and institutional research publications. Library staff is available to assist users in navigating digital resources effectively.

E-Journal Access

The SECE library provides access to a wide range of electronic journals (e-journals) covering various academic disciplines. Faculty and students can access subscribed databases and open-access journals through the Digital Library portal. Remote access may be available for registered users via institutional login credentials. Users are encouraged to follow copyright and fair use policies while accessing e-resources. For assistance with journal searches or database navigation, library staff is available to help.

Access to NPTEL Video Tutorials and Web Courses

The SECE library provides access to NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) video lectures and web courses, covering various engineering, science, and humanities subjects. Users can access these high-quality educational resources through the library’s digital section or directly via the NPTEL website. Some courses also offer certification upon completion. Library staff is available to guide users in navigating NPTEL content for academic and research purposes.

Information Retrieval/Print Out/Scanning

The SECE library offers information retrieval services to help users access books, research papers, and digital resources efficiently. Users can request assistance in finding relevant materials for academic and research purposes.

  • Printout Services: Users can take printouts of academic materials at nominal charges.
  • Scanning Services: Select pages from books, journals, and reference materials can be scanned as per library guidelines.

These services are available during library hours.

Referral Service

The SECE library provides a referral service to assist users in locating specialized resources beyond the library’s collection. If required materials are unavailable, the library staff will guide users to other libraries, databases, research institutions, or online repositories where the information can be accessed. This service is especially beneficial for faculty, researchers, and students seeking advanced study materials. Assistance in interlibrary loan requests may also be provided based on institutional agreements.

Inter Library Loan

The SECE library offers Inter-Library Loan (ILL) services to help users access books, journals, and research materials that are not available in our collection. Through collaborations with other libraries and academic institutions, faculty and students can request specific resources.

Requests for ILL can be submitted to the library staff, and availability will be confirmed based on partner library policies. Borrowing terms, loan duration, and usage restrictions will be determined by the lending institution. This service aims to support academic and research needs by expanding access to valuable resources.

User Orientation

The SECE library conducts user orientation programs to familiarize new students, faculty, and researchers with library resources, services, and policies. These sessions cover:

  • Library Layout & Sections
  • Book Borrowing & Return Procedures
  • OPAC & WebOPAC Usage
  • Digital Library & E-Resources Access
  • Research & Reference Services

Orientation sessions are held at the beginning of each academic term and upon request for specific groups. Library staff are available to provide ongoing guidance to help users maximize the benefits of library resources.

Newspaper clippings

The SECE library maintains a newspaper clippings service, providing curated news articles on academic, research, and institutional developments. Key topics include education policies, research advancements, industry trends, government regulations, and institutional achievements. Clippings are regularly updated and archived for reference. Faculty and students can access these clippings in the library or through a digital repository, if available. Special requests for specific topics can be made to the library staff.

Career and Placement Aid

The SECE library provides career and placement aid services to support students in their professional growth. Resources include:

  • Competitive Exam Guides (UPSC, GATE, CAT, etc.)
  • Aptitude & Interview Preparation Books
  • Company Profiles & Industry Reports
  • Job Portals & Internship Listings
  • Career Guidance Magazines & Newspapers

Students can access these materials in the library, and digital resources may be available through the library portal. Library staff can assist users in finding relevant career-related information.

Question bank

The SECE library maintains a question bank consisting of previous years’ exam papers and model question sets for various courses. These resources help students prepare effectively for exams by providing insights into question patterns and important topics.
  • Available in physical and digital formats
  • Covers university exams, competitive tests, and entrance exams.
  • Accessible for in-library reference or borrowing (as per library policy).
Students can request specific question papers from the library staff or access digital versions through the library portal, if available.

Printed Periodicals

The SECE library subscribes to a range of printed periodicals, including academic journals, magazines, and newsletters, covering various disciplines such as science, technology, humanities, business, and current affairs. These periodicals provide the latest research, industry insights, and general knowledge updates.

  • Available for in-library reading only.
  • Archives of back volumes are maintained for reference.
  • A list of subscribed periodicals is available at the circulation desk.

Library staff can assist users in locating specific periodicals based on their academic and research needs.

E-Books

Students can access these e-journals through the library using institutional login credentials. Library staff are available to assist in searching and navigating e-journal databases effectively.

OPAC Facilities search queries related to Books, Book Bank, Journals, CD/DVDs BAck Volumes, Project Reports, Proceedings and Standards are available in the Central Library. Users can reserve books which are under issue. Users can log-in to the OPAC by using their Roll Number. OPAC can be accessed using all systems within the campus. The library also supports NPTEL learning courses for students.
