Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s ideas, words, or work as your own. As per UGC, it is a serious breach of academic integrity and may be intentional or unintentional due to careless research and poor note-taking. The common forms include deliberate plagiarism, accidental plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and mosaic (patchwork) plagiarism. The consequences can be severe, including disciplinary action. At Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, students and faculty can use Turnitin to check similarity, strengthen paraphrasing, and improve citation practices before submission. The best way to avoid plagiarism is simple: cite your sources whenever you use another person’s ideas, data, figures, quotations, or paraphrased content that is not common knowledge.
